Freeze-Frame: God and Physics and a Three-Year Old. (And a Pippin Bonus!)

Last week, I was reading the boys the story of Jairus's daughter. After hearing how Jesus raised Jairus's daughter from the dead, Tadhg wanted to talk about resurrection more. At this point in his life resurrection is such a strong thread that death seems pretty impermanent, and I was explaining that now that Jesus is with God in heaven He isn't raising people from the dead like that anymore. But if He wanted to, I went on, He could come down anytime. But that hasn't happened yet.

Tadhg, thoughtfully--"Yeah. But heaven is far, far, far, far away."

Clearly thinking hard.

"And then He has to come flying down to earth. [pause] There could be a trampoline for God to land on! So He doesn't get hurt."

And, oh, Pip. What a guy.

Two years old and already showing me up. Rundy just came to where I was sitting with Marnie to tell me we have nerdy boys.

"Why?"

"Pippin just told me he needs my help getting the torus he threw behind the chest freezer in the basement--'Daddy, can you get my torus?'"

I didn't even know what a torus is (I don't know that Rundy had, either), and he told me to look it up.

And I did. Behold, a torus. And behold, the classic toy Peregrine had thrown behind the freezer.

You know where he learned that? A monster-truck-shapes Youtube video, no thanks to his parents.
