Here We Go A-Picnicking

Last year, the boys and I and Marnie-in-my-belly went to Rundy's work to have a picnic lunch with him. We decided to do the same this year, but made it even better by eating in the woods on a gravel road near his workplace. (And by having Marnie out of my belly. Of course.)

Everyone was extremely excited. Not only were we going to eat with Daddy near the place he works, but he was also going to buy cafeteria food for us! Hamburgers! Fries! PUDDING!

What a thrill.

Unfortunately, Rundy's lunch break isn't as luxuriously long as any of us would like. He headed back to work and we explored. We walked the same road that he walks every day on his lunch break. The kids were in fine form. Pippin was forging the trail in the lead. Tadhg held my hand and chatted about anything and everything. Marnie bounced her happy little feet and cooed and looked at the wide world.

(Their faces. I could eat 'em all up.)

On the trail of a flightless honeybee. Its demise was just a matter of time.

The only downside of the adventure?

Ticks.

The boys must've sat in a nest during lunch. Between Rundy and I, we removed 4 or 5 that were scurrying around on the boys while they ate. As soon as we got home I did a thorough tick check on everyone. Four imbedded in Pippin. And eight--EIGHT!--imbedded in Tadhg. We weren't the only revelers feasting in the woods that day.

But it was worth it, ticks and all.

The festivities continued at home since it was the last day of the work week for Rundy. We watched a movie together before heading to bed tired and happy. (I must insert here that I was not responsible for the movie choice. It was actually Rundy who picked Frozen 2. Can you believe it?!)

Still just starting this whole food thing. She's a major fan.

The best part of watching a movie with the boys is watching the boys watch the movie. And, man. Pip was engrossed in all the melodic drama.

It was an especially happy day to be a family.
