Enoch's Six Monthiversary

Posted a week late because LIFE HAS BEEN CRAZYTOWN.

Mr. Sunshine has been grinning and drooling his way through gardening, homeschool prep, and major house renovations / room swaps and overhauls. What a gift his temperament has been in this frenetic season. Still no teeth, poor boy, but he's been working hard on them. All of his daytime sunshine gets plumb worn out at night, and sleep has been difficult unless he's snuggled up with Mama in bed. I'll take the snuggles, though, and the sleepy morning grins the very second he makes eye contact.

He stands, he sits up when he's placed in the position, he's been seen rolling over a couple of times. He drools and blows {very loud} raspberries and sucks on his lower lip and makes sounds that get Rundy and I laughing. He loves playing crazy tickle games with Daddy and grabbing my face and getting all twinkly because it's a funny joke. He loves his brothers and sisters and thinks food is a pretty good deal. He sometimes sings when he hears music. This month he fell asleep on me on his first fishing trip, met some new relatives at the Manwaring reunion, gnawed on his first kernel-less corn cob, and won some new friends because pretty much all he does is grin.

Life is so much sweeter for all of us with him in it.

(This is his "Pick me up! Please! I'm so cute!" look.)

Enoch's Five Monthiversary

Our chummiest baby boy decided to stand up and bear his own weight this month (with a grown person holding his hands, of course). He doesn't roll over and thinks it's a cruel form of torture to be put on his belly on the ground to learn how to move. He's teething like the dickens and drooling until it looks like he's gone for a swim. He fake-laughs and real-laughs and gets his bouncer jumping with a vigorous and impressively efficient rhythmic one-leg kick. He still snuggles (the very coziest, curliest kind). He leans in for hugs. He soaks up the bountiful affection of every last one of his siblings, knowing instinctively that it is his right. He went on his first trip to the Adirondacks and dipped his toes in Lake Ontario and went to his first blueberry patch.

It's been a happy month with our Mr. Sunshine. He's the jolliest little man.

(Torture, see?? Distraction can only last so long.)

The chummiest. The very chummiest.

Enoch's Four Monthiversary

May has galloped right into June, and we've ridden it breathless and hanging on and squeezing out as much delight as we can--Pippin birthdays and fancy tea parties and fairy villages and a store being run through our dining room windows (customers stay on the porch, please) and gardening and flower girls and campfires and cards to Alaska and cousins to play with and pond adventures to catch newts and dragonfly nymphs and tadpoles and making the most of our first 911 calls (praise God for Pippin's preservation) and outdoor picnic lunches and plastic-pool-lawnchair-Radioflyer-wagon-forts staked with a flag and morning waltzes (how handy to have two big boys and two biggish girls who pair up!) and first tooth fairy visits and a NEW SHED! Sometimes delight is the best way to fight back the dark. This month has been heavy on delight. Maybe photos to come? So many good ones. (But who am I kidding? I'm up well past midnight just to write this post. A second one would be too much to ask for, surely.)

In the thick of it all, Enoch Abel grows. His thighs are delectably squishy and his giggle wonderfully contagious. Despite his teething making him a rather abysmal napper for the past few weeks when he's not strapped on Mama, he still smiles at the world with largesse. No teeth yet. He's found his feet (always an exciting discovery). He's begun to bear weight on his legs for (maybe?) 30 seconds tops as his new record--what a go-getter! No rolling over or scooching or trying to sit up or any such thing--when the world is so terrific just being stationery, why try to dip your toes in mobility? Food, however, is a different matter entirely. Enoch had his very first taste of ice cream at Uncle Evan's birthday party tonight because he was asking for it so desperately (and quivering pathetically). And so it begins.

Whatever baby I currently have always seems like the sweetest I've ever had while it's their turn being the baby, and Enoch is no exception. What a blessed gift to have such a happy boy whose sole aim in life seems to be to enjoy and be enjoyed. I wouldn't change a thing about you, Enoch. Not one thing.
